Leachate Monitoring in the Metals and Mining Industry

What is Leachate?

Leachate is a liquid that is formed when rainwater is filtered through waste material in a landfill site. Leachate liquid can be hazardous due to the chemicals that are drawn from the waste material which is why it is pumped from the bottom of the landfill to storage tanks for safe disposal.

How can it be measured?

Leachate can be very aggressive and made up of lots of different toxic substances, this is where non-contacting level monitoring and control is beneficial, as it means staff do not come into contact with the liquid and can view the level of leachate tanks at a safe distance.

There are other level monitoring opportunities in glass cullets and lime tank applications.
