Level and flow measurement for irrigation canals

What are lined canals?

Lined canals are generally made from brick or concrete and will block water seepage into the surrounding soil, whereas unlined canals experience very high seepage. Canal linings generally help to reduce the loss of water through seepage, prevent surrounding grounds from becoming waterlogged, require less maintenance, and provide some safety against floods.

Why is measurement needed here?

Accurate flow measurement can help to ensure that the flow through the canal is within the required parameters. Should this dip dramatically, this could indicate a blockage somewhere in the system. Having this flow measurement allows operators to identify where the problem areas are almost immediately, meaning the process stays as efficient as possible.
