Pulsar Measurement has shown the versatility of their non-contacting, ultrasonic level measurement equipment at Fane Valley Feeds. Solids and liquid measurements range from grain to molasses to diesel. While the transducer choice varies with the range of the measurement the Blackbox controllers remain constant and interchangeable, making life easier for maintenance and installation staff alike.
The new mill has a compounding capacity of around 300,000 tonnes (330,693 US tons) per annum, a significant proportion of the 2,000,000 tonnes (2,204,622 US ton) total animal feed production in Northern Ireland.
Pulsar’s equipment has given Fane Valley Feeds a number of benefits: increasing efficiency of refill and restocking procedures, providing overflow protection on liquid materials, and giving important data on levels and usage of fuel around the site. On the main grain silos, holding wheat, maize, and barley, Pulsar has installed dB25 transducers using ‘aiming kits’ to make sure that the equipment measures right down to the bottom of the silo. Signals from the Blackbox controller are loaded into the PLC on-site, so staff has an immediate, visual indication of silo contents. This provides important reordering information to avoid expensive and inconvenient raw material shortages. On the liquid raw material vessels, materials including palm oil and molasses are measured. Local indication of level provides vehicle drivers with the indication they need to make sure they don’t overfill, and diesel tanks are measured to both provide refill information and to monitor the usage of this important resource around the site.
